Acadamy For Academic Excellence

Academy for Academic Excellence, 1970 Memorial Drive, offers classes for prekindergarten through high school. Enrollment is limited to 75 students.
AAE is credited and licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education as a Category I school for regular and special education curriculum as well as a not-for-profit Tennessee corporation. Though AAE specializes in children with special needs, 60 percent of the student population is classified as regular education.
All earned credits are transferable to public schools, colleges and universities.
The school's director, Mercy E. Yrabedra, founded a tutorial service in 1990 that developed into a full-time school in 1992. Charlene Lollar serves as assistant director and guidance counselor. 647-9831.

Clarksville Acadamy

Clarksville Academy, 710 N. Second St., opened in 1970 and serves students in prekindergarten through 12th grade. The academy is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The school day starts at 8 a.m. for younger school students and 7:50 a.m. for intermediate and upper school students. All students dismiss at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The younger school program teaches academics, art, music, foreign language, technology and physical education.
Intermediate school students in grades 6-8 and their parents are able to monitor assignments and grade averages online daily. Students may participate in extracurricular activities including athletics.
Upper school students in grades 9 through 12 may select from a broad offering of Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Kay Drew serves as head of school. Projected enrollment for the 2006-07 school year is around 500 students. This year marks the completion and official opening of the Clarksville Academy Sports Complex located on state Highway 48 near Jostens Printing and Publishing.

Clarksville Montessori Children's House

Clarksville Montessori Children's House opens this year at 136 Commerce St. with Jackie Riggs as administrator.
The international Montessori education model is the brainchild of Dr. Maria Montessori, who observed that children have a desire for learning and developed a methodology that needs minimal adult intervention.
Classes are available from pre-school through sixth grade. In addition to core academics, Montessori students can choose to learn a foreign language and take lessons in art, drama and music while utilizing a multi-sensory approach. The Clarksville Montessori Children's House will include four teachers plus Riggs.

Clarksville Christian School

Clarksville Christian School opened this year operating under the umbrella of Hilldale Church of Christ with an enrollment of 55 students. The school is located in the youth wing of Hilldale at 501 state Highway 76.
Principal is Lisa Tucker. Enrollment is K-6 with a separate integrated class for high-functioning autistic children.
Annual tuition is $4,150. The school calendar will follow that of the local school system. The school day will run from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., with before and after care for students.
Physical education classes will be offered twice a week. Students will also have weekly classes in Spanish, music and art with a daily Bible class and once-a-week chapel devotional. The A Beka curriculum will be used in teaching reading, language, spelling, writing and social studies. The Purposeful Design curriculum published by the Association of Christian Schools International will be used in math and science.

Montgomery Christian Academy

Montgomery Christian Academy is at 1186 Fort Campbell Blvd., the home of First Assembly of God Church.
MCA serves prekindergarten through high school. The school's pre-K program for 3- and 4-year-olds is certified by the Tennessee Department of Education. Before and after school care is available. The school has about 10 teachers and 60 students. Cathy Hester is the administrator. MCA is a member of the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools, and its college-bound curriculum is based on the Accelerated Christian Education program. In fact, MCA is recognized as an ACE model school.
The curriculum includes Biblical instruction, reading, spelling, English, Spanish, math, science, social studies, music, art and physical education. Students participate in daily classroom devotionals and weekly Chapel services. Students enjoy educational field trips and those who wish to can participate in a basketball league.
MCA students also compete at annual ACE competitions spotlighting categories athletics and academics. 648-4762.

St. Mary's Catholic School

St. Mary's Catholic School, at 1901 Madison St., serves kindergarten through eighth grade. School hours are 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The principal is Denise Tucker, and Phyllis Loos is the administrative assistant. The curriculum includes religion, reading, spelling, English, Spanish, math, science, art, music, social studies, computer technology and physical education. The school has more than 20 faculty and staff members and about 140 students.
Mass is celebrated at 8:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the chapel. 645-1865.

Tabernacle Christian School

Tabernacle Christian School, 303 Market St., is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is affiliated with Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. Jimmy Terry Sr. is pastor. The school serves about 60 students in pre-kindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds through fifth grade and has 10 teachers and staff members. Katobwa Stallworth is the principal. In addition to its regular elementary education courses, the school offers physical education and Spanish. A combination of three curriculums are used in the classroom to include: A Beka, Scotts Foreman, and Association of Christian Schools International. Tabernacle Christian School has started an aggressive fund-raising campaign to build a new $4 million school to include offices, classrooms, a media center and kitchen. Unity Christian Academy

Unity Christian Academy, 1800 Memorial Drive, serves grades pre-K through 12 and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Unity moved to their new site this year and are temporarily holding classes in what will become the gym of their new facility. Enrollment is estimated at 60 students this year and expected to increase once the new building is open.
The school has eight teachers and three part-time teachers with a curriculum that includes Biblical instruction, reading, spelling, English, Spanish, math, science, social studies, music and art. Unity incorporates a combination of three curriculums: Accelerated Christian Education, A Beka and Bob Jones materials.
Extracurricular activities include cheerleading, track, baseball and basketball.
The school day runs from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Jacqueline Hale serves as the school's principal. Faith Canull is the elementary assistant principal. 645-6003.
