Pratt Museum

Fort Campbell's Don F. Pratt Museum is named for a brigadier general who assaulted by glider into Normandy with the 101st Airborne Division on D-Day. The displays are set up in chronological order, starting with soldiers who fought in World War II. The importance of the museum is to give soldiers and veterans of the Screaming Eagle division that they are part of a living history — a past that goes back to 1942 when the unit was formed.

Fort Campbell's artifacts will eventually be moved to the Wings of Liberty museum being built near U.S. Highway 41A North and Tiny Town Road. The Wings of Liberty Museum is scheduled to open in 2007-08. The 80,000- square-foot new museum will be built in phases with numerous aviation and military aircraft and vehicle exhibits to be added depicting the storied history. The facility will be interactive and put visitors "in the action" of yesterday and today's battles in addition to having a 200-seat IMAX-style theater, a snack bar and a gift shop. The Fort Campbell Historical Foundation continues to raise money for the project and has a variety of ways the community can donate to the project.

The Pratt Museum is at Tennessee Avenue and Screaming Eagle Boulevard, Fort Campbell, through Gate 4. It is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Admission is free. The museum is closed on Sundays, Christmas and New Year's Day. For information, call (270) 798-4986.
